Long bio

(289 words)

Phoebe Tickell is a scientist, systems thinker, and the Founder of Moral Imaginations, a non-profit dedicated to catalysing just, regenerative futures by igniting humankind's moral imagination. She has worked alongside the world’s leading authorities on sustainability and trained senior leaders at Fortune 500 companies, helping them to imagine what a better future looks like and giving them the confidence to make it happen.

She has developed the Moral Imagination approach, adopted by organisations, communities and change leaders worldwide to shift mindsets and drive deep, systemic change. It pioneers cutting-edge practices that bridge inner and outer transformation, introducing radical approaches into the heart of government, institutions and companies.

She has worked with over 75 organisations and trained over 1000 people in the Moral Imagination methodology since 2021, including groundbreaking work that introduced, for the first time, a more-than-human perspective into UK government policy-making creating the first functional more-than-human citizens assembly. In 2022, Moral Imaginations partnered with Camden Council in an award-winning collaboration to embed imagination into the council's leadership, policy and practice. She trained 30 Imagination Activists who reached 300 and then 3000 of the Council’s staff, and Camden’s local residents.

Phoebe coined the term "Imagination Activist" to describe a new kind of activist who focuses on creating new possibilities through imagination and a transformative worldview, rather than fighting against existing systems. Through her thought leadership and practical implementation, Phoebe has influenced many others to take up an imagination activist approach, including large foundations who have diverted their funds towards supporting ‘imagination infrastructure’.

Phoebe is an Executive Fellow at Harvard Business School and Edmund Hillary Fellow for Global Impact. She is a Scientific Advisor to the Inner Development Goals and holds a degree in Biological Natural Sciences from Cambridge University.

Tarje Bjørgum, Head Sustainability and Future Health, Abelia

"Phoebe has been an exceptional debater in our Kite Insights events, delivering two outstanding performances that showcase her remarkable public speaking abilities. Her recent intervention at SXSW London on climate communications was one of the best we've seen - combining meticulous research with powerful delivery and persuasive rhetoric - and was so compelling that we now use it as one of our few examples of "best-in-class" speakers to prep debaters. Her ability to craft and deliver such persuasive arguments has made her performances essential viewing for anyone looking to understand what excellent public speaking looks like in action."

Sophie Lambin, Founder and CEO, Kite Insights

“Phoebe Tickell is the best alchemist I know who is able to help humans activate a forgotten compass, a way of knowing, belonging, and relating with life we all have the capacity to access if reminded how to.”
